My wife and I recently went on a trip with some friends that have rv's. One has a 39' and the other has a 42', although both were very nice they are also quite expensive. Does anyone have suggestions for a first rv?
Is the cost of Fuel affecting the Use and sales of Recreational Vehicles?
As the RV's for sale is increasing on many of the Web Sites, it looks like RVers are concerned about the rising cost of fuel. Depending on where the cost of fuel will settle will determine the affordability of using a Recreational Vehicle.
The price of fuel is casusing us to take shorter trips. We still go, just not as far.
Can anyone tell me what Walmarts policy is on camping in their parking lots?
Re: 94 Fleetwood Flair Hydraulic Cooling System Problems
I own this motorhome already and am wondering if you have had any problems with the hydraulic cooling system?
Ours has broken 3 times and to find out in 94 there was a "service bulletin" where they took out the entire hydraulic cooling system and replaced it with a direct drive cooling system.
This is what I have found out online so far: ‘Service Bulletin’ # T007RT dated January 15, 1995…the retrofit kit # was 4SK235.
I would appreciate an email back as I am trying to find out what the "system Bulletin Kit" looks like so I can fix it and regain the trust of my grandkids that the RV won't break down again on our family trips.
Thanks so much.

Wallmart leaves it up to each Store Manager to decide. If you ask for the manager and ask, you will probably find that it is fine. I have had several employees tell me it is not OK, but every manager has said that it was OK.
Have you contacted Fleetwood directly, either by e mail or mail about the problem? I have found Fleetwood to be very responsible and to help when I have had a problem.
Yes I have contacted Fleetwood directly and they have led me to Freightliner since this is a chassis problem. Freightliner hasn't been that helpful.

I have had problems with Freightliner too. I would suggest writting to Freightliners corporate office and sending a copy to Fleetwoods corporate office. You will probably have to push the issue with Freightliner, however they should get involved. If they don't then you can make use of the internet to tell your story and if you make a loud enough noise, they will respond since the negative publicity is not good for business.
I've been trying that already and Freightliner has pretty much said they didn't keep any of their old records or spec's???Who doesn't keep the records of their OWN Fleet? Thats just dumb.
This was a Service Buletin in Jan of 95 and they have no records of it...none? They don't even have any specifications of the hydraulic cooling system.
And I've tried Fleetwood and they just politlry tell me they don't deal with Chassis issues so call this number.....
I think both Fleetwood and Freightliner don't want to waste their time and so have been no help.
Your the first to respond.
Thanks.

I have had some problems getting Freightliner to take care of problems with their vehicle. Unfortunately the customer is the one to suffer. I currently own a Freightliner chassis under my Fleetwood Discovery, and I have already made the decision that I do not plan to own another one. Your best chance to get Freightliner to help is to keep trying. Send e mails and keep calling in hopes that you will get lucky enough to talk to someone that cares about the customer. I would also suggest putting a link to this blog in every letter that you send, so they can see that this is being shared with the public, also cc Fleetwood, so they can see that their name is being associated with Freightliners bad name. Also feel free to paste any letters that you send them here, so everyone can see how they respond. Hopefully someone at Freightliner will do what any responsible company would do and help you get the problem resolved. Please continue to post the responses you get here, so others can see how irresponsible Freightliner is, and maybe someone will get through to them.
Depending on the size of your
family, I would suggest that you
look at used motorhomes in the 30-34 foot range with no more than
35,000 miles on them. They are much easier to drive. Also, I have
a Ford 460 but prefer the Chevy 454. BEFORE you buy pay some RV
tech to inspect the motorhome care
fully and drive it. Normally, at
$100/hour repair rates you can
expect to spend $2K-3K getting a
used motorhome in first class shape. Especially check the tires
for fine cracks on the sidewalls
which indicates dry rot. (The tread could be excellent.) Also,
try to buy a motorhome that is no
more than 8 years old. They are not easy to sell when they are over 10 years old. I could say
much more but this will get you
started.
